Lector

Lectors proclaim the Word to the assembly and present petitions at Mass.  If you enjoy public speaking and wish to share your faith through reading from the Word, email the volunteer coordinator or call 301-845-8043 X102 to learn more about this fulfilling ministry and to receive training.

Usher

Ushers observe the needs of the congregation before, during, and after Mass. They seat parishioners, collect and secure the Offertory, coordinate the gifts for Preparation, see and respond to emergencies, and distribute bulletins after the service.  Please email the volunteer coordinator or call 301-845-8043 X102 for more information about ushering.

Altar Server

Children in grades 3-12 are encouraged to become Altar Servers and assist the priest at Mass.  Altar Servers carry the cross, candles, incense, censer and priest’s book.  This is truly a “gateway” ministry, the first step in a lifetime of serving the Lord, and it engages the children in a special way to be such an important part of the service.  Friendly, age-appropriate training is provided and support from older servers helps the younger ones learn on the job.  Contact Tim Pollak at tipollak@comcast.net or call him at 301-845-8265 to learn more.

Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist (EM) prepare the sacred vessels for Mass and help distribute Communion hosts and wine.  In addition to the weekend Masses, there are other opportunities to visit the home-bound or sick and bring them communion.  If you are at least 16 years old and a confirmed, practicing Catholic, you are invited to learn more about this very rewarding ministry by contacting the volunteer coordinator or by calling 301-845-8043 X102.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Presenting the Word in terms that children can understand is the goal of Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW).  The CLOW team members accompany the children from the sanctuary to the chapel during the Liturgy of the Word and present the readings in terms the children can understand. Presenters and aides for this program must be trained through our Archdiocesan program VIRTUS to work with children.   Contact Marissa Paoletti at mpaoletti@stimothys.org or call 301-845-8043 (103) for further information.
